The Essentials Of Islamic Belief

How to fast the month of Ramadan. Integrals & Invalidators of Fasting
The obligation on the believers of fasting Ramaḍân is known from the Qur’ân and the Hadîth. It was explicitly stated in Verse 183 of Surat Al-Baqarah: {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ} which means: « O believers, Fasting is an obligation upon you as it was ordained upon the (Muslim nations) before you–to help you become pious. » Fasting was an obligation upon the nations before the nation of Prophet Muḥammad peace to be upon him, however, fasting the month of Ramaḍân in particular is a specification for the nation of Prophet Muḥammad peace to be upon him only.

Paying Zakat of Fitr and its Recipients
Also note that it is obligatory upon individuals who fulfil certain conditions to pay Zakah of Fitr. Allâh said in Surat Al-Mujadalah, Ayah 11 which means: « Allâh raises the ranks of those among you who believe and those who were granted the knowledge. » Also, Allâh said in Surat Az-Zumar, Ayah 9 which means: « Those who know are not the same as those who do not know. » In the hadith related by Al-Bayhaqiyy, the Messenger of Allâh Muḥammad Sallâ lLâhou ʿalayhi wa sallam said which means: « Seeking the knowledge of the Religion is obligatory on every Muslim. »
